NURS 7209 Basic Principles of Anesthesia Practice and Simulation II

This course is the second of a two-part sequence that introduces the student to perioperative processes and the nursing practice of anesthesiology. Opportunities are provided for application to practice through simulation. This course continues to introduce students to the role of an anesthesia professional. Focus is on pre-operative assessment and the patient-CRNA relationship, preparation of the anesthetizing location, monitoring devices, adjunctive equipment, and communication practices in the perioperative environment. Students practice induction, maintenance, emergence, and recovery from anesthesia. Safety, risk reduction, and ethics are reinforced.
