RELS 3330 Religion, Values, and Film
This course presents a systematic study of the representation of religion in film, a medium through which cultural values are shaped and exchanged. We will examine how the relationship between film and religion has been envisioned in a variety of contexts and investigate how films construct and negotiate between different visions of a well-lived human life. Students will become familiar with a variety of critical methodologies with which they can begin to analyze a film and the religious and secular values it promotes. Special attention is given to the range of Catholic perspectives on film since its inception.
Prerequisite
Any three-hour 1000-level RELS course listed in the UIW catalog (RELS 1300-1399)
