OMED 8272 Medicaid 101 Elective Clerkship

This 2-week elective examines Medicaid. Learners study the program’s federal and state components and its relationship to the Children’s Health Insurance Program or CHIP. Learners also survey key laws and regulations that govern federal health care programs, like Medicaid, and contrast states that did and did not expand their Medicaid programs under the Affordable Care Act. Finally, learners may consider different beneficiary groups that Medicaid covers, such as dual-eligible beneficiaries – persons who are covered by both Medicare and Medicaid. This elective is synchronous and combines readings, small group discussions, case studies, and learner presentations.
