Requirements for the Health Sciences Major
A. 46 hours University Core Curriculum
Refer to the Core Curriculum course options listed in the Institutional Policies section of this catalog.
B. Select one of the following three study tracks:
I. Administration Track:
The Administration track is designed to provide a solid foundation in health science, knowledge and skill required for specific certification examination eligibility, and business/managerial acumen.
1. Lower-Level Health Science Core Curriculum (10 hours):
2. Upper-Level Health Science Core Curriculum (15 hours):
a. 25 semester hours Health Sciences Core Curriculum:
The student will complete the following required courses:
b. 30 semester hours Specialty Certification Curriculum
c. 21 semester hours Business Core Curriculum
II. General/Military Track:
The General/Military track is design for the working allied healthcare practitioner who may have previously earned a recognizable specialty certification and/or completed military training and experience, but desires a baccalaureate degree.
1. Lower-Level Health Science Core Curriculum (10 hours):
a. 33 semester hours chosen from the following:
b. 18-41 hours of General Military studies
The General/Military track is designed for the working allied healthcare practitioner who may have previously earned a recognizable specialty certification and/or completed military training and experience, but desires an associate degree.
Courses consist of transfer college work or appropriate military experience credit in an area of allied health science. Consult with your academic adviser to determine appropriate courses.
2. Upper-Level Health Science Core Curriculum (27 hours):
III. Nutrition Track:
The Nutrition track is designed for entry-level jobs in a variety of areas with a focus on nutrition. The AS degree with a major in Health Science and a concentration in nutrition does not meet the Didactic Programs in Dietetics (DPD) requirements for the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

2. Upper-Level Health Science Core Curriculum (27 hours):
C. General electives to meet 120 total credit hours for the degree
D. 45 Clock hours of Community Service is required
Students must complete a minimum of 45 semester hours are taken at UIW and at least 36 hours must be upper division credits.
Active-duty military students must take a minimum of 30 hours, or at least 25% of the total degree plan, at UIW.
