Computer Information Systems Course Descriptions

The Computer Information Systems program at UIW offers Bachelor of Science degrees in both Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Cyber Security Systems (CSEC), providing students with the theoretical and experiential knowledge and skills required for a diversity of in-demand and challenging career opportunities across the spectrum of these technical fields. The CIS and CSEC majors share foundation and advanced courses in computer hardware, networks, telecommunications, operating systems, programming, website development, database systems, systems analysis, and management of technology and IT personnel. Students choosing to major in CIS further specialize in one of five areas: emerging technologies, programming, networking, website development, or cyber security. Students choosing the CSEC major study digital forensics, intrusion detection and response, cryptography, legal issues in cyber security, information assurance, and risk management. All students in this program are also required to conduct internships in the field and demonstrate expertise in a capstone/practicum project.
