Music Performance (B.A.)
The Bachelor of Arts with a major in Music and an Emphasis in Performance (Vocal or Instrumental) is designed for students who wish to achieve a high level of proficiency in performance, with a primary focus on the classical tradition. Prospective students for the performance emphasis must be able to read notated music and demonstrate strong technical proficiency in their instrument/voice at the time of audition. Degree candidates receive thorough instruction in music theory and history and take courses in a variety of other disciplines to achieve the breadth of learning that characterizes a liberal arts degree. Candidates demonstrate their achievement in performance at the end of their degree by performing a public recital. 50-60 credit hours in musicianship
A. 40-43 credit hours of Music theory and history:
musi-1110'>MUSI 1110 must be completed twice. Students pursuing the Vocal Performance emphasis must also complete musi-3161'>MUSI 3161, Diction for Singers, and musi-3261'>MUSI 3261, Vocal Pedagogy.
B. 20 credit hours of applied and required upper-level Music:
Note: All entering freshmen seeking the Music Performance emphasis must register for either muap-1176'>MUAP 1176 or muap-1154'>MUAP 1154 and must register for a major ensemble.
14 credit hours of principal instrument, either voice or on principle instrument:

Recital Requirement
