EDUC 8358 Research in Entrepreneurship
This course helps students develop an intuitive and actionable understanding of social innovation and entrepreneurship as they relate to real-world applications in both professional and personal contexts. This course is grounded in the principle that social innovation is the development and implementation of new ideas, models, and collaborations that address critical social needs (Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy, 2013), while entrepreneurship is a way of thinking, acting, and being that enables individuals to identify or create opportunities through action (Neck et al., 2021). The course synthesizes entrepreneurial methodologies with social innovation frameworks, highlighting key concepts that foster sustainable change. By examining how social innovators and entrepreneurs contribute to sustainable social and economic development, students will explore enabling and constraining conditions, theories of change, and participatory approaches that leverage systemic innovation for equity, justice and improved socioeconomic wellbeing.
