The Interior Design Department does not require a design portfolio for incoming students. It is through the first year and one-half in the program that students are prepared for this demanding and competitive profession. In March / April of their Sophomore year, students are required to prepare and submit a portfolio of work from specific courses. Upon a successful review, those students will be fully admitted to their INTD or INMM degrees.

Portfolios are reviewed in March / April of their second year.

The Portfolio includes projects from the following courses:
INTD 1320 Architectural Drawing
INTD 1410 Form, Space, and Theory

INTD 2363 Architectural Graphics

INTD 2325 Construction and Details

INTD 2301 Computer Applications for ID

INTD 2375 Space Planning

INTD 3367 Studio I

OPTIONAL:

INTD 2300 Introduction to Interior Design

INTD 2355 History of the Built Environment I

  • Only upon passage of the Portfolio Review may students continue the BFA Interior Design degree or BFA Interior Merchandising and Management degree (all four concentrations) and continue studying within their major.
  • Any student denied passage to continue may retake courses and resubmit.
  • Transfer students who have completed interior design courses at other institutions are required to submit a valid transcript along with a portfolio of work to be reviewed by the UIW interior design faculty to determine course work equivalencies. The transfer student may also be required to take a skills assessment test.
