Bachelor of Science in Data Science
The Bachelor of Science in Data Science degree program is designed to prepare future professionals with the mathematical, computer information system, statistical, and analytical skills to manage and understand the data that fuels growth across sectors.
This 120 credit hour degree program integrates higher mathematics, computer information systems, statistics, machine learning and programming. Through this combination of courses and skill development, students will build a strong foundation in the fields of study that make them sound logicians and information analysts and highly coveted in the job market. Data Science degree holders can further tailor their education through elective courses that emphasize data mining, design, predictive analytics, business intelligence and more. UIW’s core curriculum will also develop communication and critical soft skills, ethics, and a broader world view.
To complete the degree program, data science students will complete a capstone project course in the spring semester of their senior year. The capstone challenges students to apply their data science knowledge to solve a problem or innovate.

Data Science Elective Coursework
Students may select 12 credit hours from this list of courses to satisfy the Data Science Electives Requirement, or may enroll in Special Topics courses as approved by the Data Science Program Chair.
Students may enroll in no more than 6 hours total in MIS courses and MATH 3370 or MATH 4370.
Students must declare as a major in the Bachelor of Science in Data Science degree program and must have completed MATH 2340 or ENGR 2340 (with “C” or better grade) to be allowed to register for the following courses:

CIS 3310: Database Management Systems
General Elective Coursework
General elective coursework is required as needed to complete the 120 credit hour requirement for the Bachelor of Science in Data Science degree program.
