EDUC 3350 Emergent Literacy
This course examines literacy learning from an emergent perspective, acknowledging the child's previous literacy experiences as a foundation for further literacy development in the classroom. Students in this course will experience a study of the emergent literacy perspective and learn concepts applicable to this philosophy of literacy acquisition. this study will help students develop literacy knowledge and literacy practices pertinent to the young child's literacy development. Best practices in the field of literacy will be examined and will include such practices as shared reading, phonemic awareness. literacy centers, dramatic play literacy extensions, and the role of children's literature in fostering early literacy development.
