GOVT 4323 Politics of Coffee and Sugar

Students explore the history of imperialism in its political, economic, and cultural dimensions through the exploitation of coffee, sugar, and other commodities.  Students examine the role of commodities in economic, political, and social transformation; the role of social class and gender in colonial ideologies; the economic, social, and environmental impact on colonial rule; the forces behind decolonization; and globalization in the post-colonial world.
