GOVT 4323 Politics of Coffee and Sugar
This class explores the history of imperialism in its political, economic, and cultural dimensions through the exploitation of coffee, sugar, and other commodities. Over the course of the semester, we will explore the role of commodities in economic, political, and social transformation; the role of social class and gender in colonial ideologies; the economic, social and environmental impact on colonial rule; the forces behind decolonization; and globalization in the post-colonial world.
